September 30, 2024 - Upstream Data Quality Issue Tracking & 5 New Integrations!

What's New ✨

Upstream Data Quality Issue Tracking

Knowing data quality issues that known about a table is great, but we heard from you that an equally important challenge is for end users to know when there is an upstream quality issue impacting a dashboard. With Upstream Issues, dashboard users can quickly see if there is a quality issue impacting an upstream table.

Users can click into the Data Quality tab to see the exact issues and what tables are impacted:

Upstream issues are shown on dashboards and data warehouse tables, and will always be shown as an warning (yellow indicator) as it is not a direct issue on the asset. Upstream issues will surface both dbt tests and Monte Carlo issues, depending on what is configured in your stack and connected to Select Star.

Salesforce Beta Integration

Select Star now integrates with Salesforce to bring more visibility and metadata insights to your data stack. The Salesforce integration supports showing Salesforce Objects and Field in the catalog, object ERD, as well as lineage from rollups and lookups. Salesforce can be manually connected to your data warehouse to show lineage via manual lineage.

Future improvements include lineage from formulas, automatic lineage creation between Salesforce and your data warehouse.

SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and DB2 Integrations

Select Star now supports SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and DB2 data sources. This helps customers build visibility into metadata and usage of their on premises or legacy systems. Note: popularity and usage insights and query insights are not supported for DB2, however, lineage is supported via DDLs.

What's Improved ➕

Lineage Updates

We've continued to invest in the lineage experience within Select Star and are excited to bring a number of improvements to the lineage list view experience

  • CSV Download is now supported for table level lineage for upstream, downstream and downstream dashboards

  • Tired of clicking each row to load additional lineage? The new Expand All button allows you to quickly open all* layers without having to click through (*some limits applied)

  • See too much lineage? The new Data Source filter lets you narrow down to just the assets you care about

  • In the lineage explorer, the Collapse Nodes button lets you quickly manage unwieldy lineages and see lineage at the highest level

Search Update: Tag Boost

Customers put a lot of effort to tag and organize data, and we want that to work for you. That is why we have updated our search algorithm to provide a slight boost for data assets tagged with specific tags. Data Assets with a tags with the following icon will receive a boost in the search results:

Permission Update: Tag Creation

Tags are the key way to organize data assets within Select Star, which is why we've decided to make tag creation / deletion to be limited to Org Admins. Data Managers will continue to be able to add tags to specific assets.

Other Incremental Updates 🔨

  • API addition: Discussion comments are now available via the Select Star API

  • Support has been added to show the SQL for Tableau Custom SQL in the lineage explorer

  • dbt Tests now display the columns they are for
